Sell an engagement ring with EncoreLuxe

Start with the right question

A private process for a personal piece.

People sell engagement rings for many reasons: the end of a relationship, a bereavement, an upgrade, a change in circumstances or simply a ring that no longer feels right to wear. None of these needs to be explained to us. The team focuses on the ring itself, and you share only the information that helps with an accurate assessment.

EncoreLuxe reviews branded rings from houses such as Tiffany & Co., Cartier, Graff and Boodles, as well as unbranded solitaires, halos, trilogy and vintage rings. The first review is complimentary and carries no obligation. EncoreLuxe buys outright rather than offering loans, so there is no ongoing arrangement, and every offer is subject to physical authentication before payment.

Practical framework

What helps the review

01

Clear photographs

The ring from above and the side, the inside of the band and any marks. Photographs of the ring alone are enough; you do not need to include anything personal.

02

Diamond paperwork

A GIA, IGI or HRD report, or a house diamond certificate, helps identify the stone. It is useful but not required.

03

Purchase details

A receipt, retailer’s description or old insurance schedule can support the history. Personal details on documents can be covered.

04

Honest condition

Mention resizing, worn claws, missing accent stones or other repairs. Condition is assessed in person, so accuracy avoids surprises.

01

Branded and unbranded rings

A branded engagement ring is assessed for its house, collection, signature and serial details as well as the diamond and metal. Designs such as the Tiffany Setting or a Cartier solitaire are well known to pre-owned buyers, and original boxes, certificates and receipts help confirm that the ring is complete and unaltered.

An unbranded ring is assessed on the qualities of its stones, the quality of the mount and its condition. Many independent jewellers and family firms in the UK make excellent rings, and a well-made unsigned solitaire can still be very desirable. Vintage and antique rings are considered for period, craftsmanship and originality, not only the size of the stone.

02

Paperwork that genuinely helps

The most useful document is usually a diamond grading report, because it describes the centre stone independently and can often be matched to an inscription on the girdle. After that, a house certificate or receipt from the original retailer helps with signed rings. An insurance valuation can indicate what was described at the time, although it states a replacement figure rather than a resale value.

If you have none of these, you can still proceed. Many rings are sold without paperwork, and the stone and metal are examined and tested during the physical review. When photographing documents, you are welcome to cover names, addresses and payment details; we only need the information that relates to the ring.

03

Privacy and discretion

You can submit details at a time that suits you and tell us how you would prefer to be contacted. There is no public listing, no marketplace messaging and no need to explain the ring’s history to strangers. Information you provide is handled in line with the EncoreLuxe privacy policy and used to assess and, if you choose, complete the purchase.

If circumstances are raw, there is no pressure to decide quickly. You can receive an initial indication and return to it later, or simply decline. Some people prefer to keep a ring for a while before selling, and that is entirely reasonable.

04

Ownership and practical checks

As with any purchase, the person selling must be entitled to sell the ring. If ownership is shared, disputed or part of an estate, please resolve that first; EncoreLuxe cannot advise on personal legal matters, and a solicitor is the right source of guidance where there is doubt. Executors and representatives should explain their role when they enquire.

If you accept an initial figure, we explain the insured send-in or suitable in-person option before the ring moves. It is then examined, the stones are tested and any signature is authenticated. If the ring differs materially from the information supplied, the offer is reconsidered, and you remain free to decline.

Questions, answered

Before you
send it in.

Do I need to explain why I am selling?

No. We only need details about the ring itself. Any personal context is entirely your choice to share.

Can I sell an engagement ring without the receipt or certificate?

Yes. Paperwork helps but is not required. The ring is examined, tested and authenticated in person before any offer is confirmed.

Do you buy unbranded engagement rings?

Yes. Unbranded solitaires, halos, trilogy and vintage rings are reviewed on the quality of the stones, the mount and the overall condition.

Will my details be kept private?

Yes. There is no public listing. Your information is used to assess and complete the purchase in line with the EncoreLuxe privacy policy.

Can I take time to think about an offer?

Yes. The review is without obligation, and you can decline or come back to us when you are ready.
